Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Cornicular.
Cornicular is a decentralized document verification platform that secures your files on the blockchain. It allows you to prove ownership, detect tampering, and verify the authenticity of any document instantly.
When you register a document, Cornicular creates a cryptographic hash (fingerprint) of your file and anchors it on-chain along with metadata. This proves the file existed in that exact state at that specific time. Anyone can later verify the document by comparing its hash against the on-chain record to confirm it hasn't been altered, without storing the actual file contents publicly.
Yes. Validation and scanning on Cornicular run based on the owner's permissions and plan. When the owner allows it, anyone can verify the file's authenticity and scan it through the system. If the owner does not grant permission, or their plan does not support private verification and scanning, the public can only verify the hash on the blockchain explorer, where the record stays transparent and traceable.
Cornicular currently supports Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, and several other EVM-compatible networks. We are continuously adding support for more chains.
IPFS is a decentralized, peer-to-peer storage network where files are addressed by content, making them resilient and tamper-evident. BYOS (Bring Your Own Storage) lets you connect your own storage, like Google Drive or AWS S3, so your files stay under your control while Cornicular only hashes and anchors them. Gas is the network fee paid to execute blockchain transactions, and Cornicular covers it on plans that include Gas, so you never need crypto on those plans, while on plans without it the transaction fee is paid directly. Custody is where Cornicular can store, back up, recover, and manage your files and assets on your behalf.
Cornicular supports PDF, DOCX, PNG, JPG, and most common document formats. The system calculates a unique hash regardless of the file type.
No. Only the cryptographic hash and metadata of your document are stored on-chain. Your actual file is never uploaded to the blockchain, ensuring complete privacy.
Not on paid plans, where Cornicular abstracts away wallets, gas fees, and cryptocurrencies, so you pay a simple subscription in fiat and we handle the network mechanics. On the free plan, gas is not included, so you need your own cryptocurrency wallet to cover the transaction fees for on-chain registration. For basic verification no wallet is needed at all.
The free plan allows you to register up to 5 MB of documents with 24-hour temporary storage. It's perfect for trying out the platform and verifying occasional documents.
Yes. The public verification page allows anyone to verify a document by uploading the file, entering a hash, scanning a QR code, or providing a certificate ID. No account is required.
Contract Intelligence analyzes your contracts and agreements, extracting key terms, risks, obligations, and status so you understand what you are signing. Notarization is the process where an authorized notary certifies the identity and authenticity of your file, giving it legal weight, and Cornicular binds that certification to the on-chain record. Legal Advisory provides guidance on how your registered files hold up in disputes, the compliance rules that apply, and the laws covering your digital records and agreements.
A Blockchain Consortium is a private, permissioned network jointly operated and governed by a group of organizations, where access and voting rights are granted to approved members instead of being open to anyone. While a public blockchain like Bitcoin or Ethereum lets anyone join, validate, and read transactions, a consortium restricts those roles to selected institutions, combining the transparency and immutability of a distributed ledger with the privacy, speed, and regulatory control enterprises need. For Cornicular, a Blockchain Consortium means enterprises can create their own private blockchain network where their customers can register files and agreements, verify records, and share data in a permissioned and accountable environment that remains credible for legal, compliance, and audit purposes, while keeping each member's data private and access controlled.
If any part of a document is modified after registration, the hash will no longer match the on-chain record. Cornicular will flag the document as 'Tampered' and show the verification failure details.
Document owners can remove their documents, and issuers can revoke documents. Removed documents show a 'Removed' status, and revoked documents show 'Revoked'. Both are permanently recorded on-chain.
When you update a document, you can register a new version. The previous version is marked as 'Superseded' and linked to the new one, maintaining a clear version history on-chain.
Cornicular is designed with compliance in mind. We support GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and are working toward eIDAS and ESIGN Act alignment for electronic signatures and document integrity.
