Bring Your Own Storage: How BYOS Works

Enterprise data sovereignty is a critical requirement for many organizations. Today, we are introducing Bring Your Own Storage (BYOS), a feature that lets enterprise users connect their own cloud storage providers.

Why BYOS?

Many organizations have strict data residency requirements. They need to know exactly where their data is stored, who has access, and how it is managed. BYOS puts enterprises in complete control of their document storage while still benefiting from Cornicular's blockchain verification.

Supported Providers

BYOS supports four major cloud storage providers: AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, and Cloudflare R2. Each integration uses presigned URLs to ensure that files never pass through Cornicular servers, maintaining end-to-end data sovereignty.

How It Works

When BYOS is enabled, the upload flow changes. Instead of uploading to Cornicular's temporary storage, files are uploaded directly to your configured storage provider via presigned URLs. The backend then reads from your storage to compute the hash and generate the certificate, without retaining any copy of the file.

This architecture provides several benefits: compliance with data residency regulations, elimination of data duplication, full audit trails in your own storage logs, and the ability to apply your own retention and access policies.
